Mr. Rogers said, “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ “
A wonderful doctor in our network of volunteers who serve medically vulnerable patients shared this quote with me. For years, she has clung to this hope that there will always be people helping in times of trouble. She told me that it is a little harder in some ways to be one of the helpers these days, but it is so much better than doing nothing!

Lately, that is exactly how I feel. This quote has brought me some comfort when I read the paper in the morning or watch the news at night. As I go through my day and hear stories of patients who are scared they will lose their health insurance and of folks struggling to gain the care they desperately need, I am encouraged to find people who are helping. Doctors Care lives in a world with so many incredible helpers. Right now, the potential changes feel overwhelming. But, please find comfort in knowing that there are lots of us paying attention. Even when we get knocked down, we always get back up to fight another day for a more just and kind society.

Please don’t hesitate to join us in helping to ensure that everyone has access to the healthcare they need. In the words of our founder and fearless leader, Dr. Gary VanderArk, “Healthcare for all is the right thing to do, not the privilege of a few.” Thank you.
