Volunteer Provider Highlight – Julia Rhiannon, MD

Julia Rhiannon, MD has been in the medical field for 28 years and has worked in California, Washington, and Colorado. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry and Religious Studies and obtained her Medical Degree at the University Of California Davis School of Medicine, and a Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Georgia. Dr. Rhiannon completed her residency and fellowship at the University of Colorado. She joined Doctors Care’s group of volunteer providers in October of 2018 and has been dedicated to the organization and the patients we serve ever since.  Since COVID-19 hit, Dr. Rhiannon has remained engaged with Doctors Care, initially working remotely from her home and more recently returning to the clinic to see patients.

We are excited to highlight Dr. Rhiannon’s work and share her reflections on working with Doctors Care.

What made you want to volunteer with Doctors Care?

I knew Doctors Care had a reputation for providing high-quality primary care for underserved populations, and wanted to be a part of that.

Will you share a quick story about an experience you had while volunteering?

The volunteer coordinator, Jana, is such a wonderful person.  During two separate times that I have had to be out sick, she has twice brought me creations of her truly gourmet home-cooking, which certainly speeded my recovery. Doctors Care is truly a family.

If you were speaking to someone about Doctors Care, why would you encourage them to get involved with the organization?

The staff/colleagues I get to work with are truly amazing individuals: empathic, caring, and extremely competent. Everyone at Doctors Care seems to care more deeply for the patients we see, as well as for other staff, than any other workplace I have experienced. It is such a privilege to be associated with Doctors Care.
