Effective Teamwork Means Better Care

LuAnne Hicks has been a licensed nurse practitioner for nearly twenty years. As an Instructor in the Masters/FNP and Accelerated Nursing Programs at Regis University, she recently served as a volunteer primary care provider and preceptor at the Doctors Care Clinic.

Doctors Care as both a philosophy and a reality is a model of comprehensive, patient-centered, quality health care for the most vulnerable members of our community. During my year there as a volunteer provider and preceptor for nurse practitioner students, I experienced a truly team-centered environment among the staff.

The staff is of the highest caliber and integrity and among some of the most caring individuals I have ever been associated with in my 30+ years as a health care provider. I am honored to have had the privilege to meet and care for patients with the support of the health care team, which includes some of the best medical assistants, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and specialists and physicians, many of whom volunteer their time.

The physicians serve not only as an integral part of the healthcare team, but also as a referral base for gynecology, internal medicine, surgery and psychology to mention just a few. They also make themselves available for consultation to the medical staff on-site which facilitates a holistic approach and added value to this quality, integrated healthcare model.
