As a valuable asset to the community, Doctors Care offers more than just medical care. Patients that come to Doctors Care can receive dental hygiene services, behavioral health services, discuss insurance options with experts and receive help enrolling in Medicaid.

Doctors Care also serves as a teaching facility, typically with students from local university programs doing Pediatric or Family Medicine rotations in the clinic. In their short time with Doctors Care, students gain valuable medical knowledge from the clinic team, and experience the rewards of working in a medical safety net environment.   By providing this unique opportunity, the hope is to inspire young students and create a next generation of medical providers caring for the medically underserved.

One recent student to complete a rotation was Joey Larson, a Physician Assistant student from Drexel University.  Joey took some time after his rotation to reflect on his experience working at Doctors Care:

My experience with Doctors Care as a PA student struck close to home immediately within the first week. It was such a kind and friendly environment to walk into, from the front desk, medical assistants, and staff members, everyone was smiling. I received an opportunity to spend my Pediatrics rotation at this clinic just a couple miles away from where I grew up. I could not have been more excited and admittedly nervous to work with newborns and children for the first time. Thankfully, I had the example of over 10 providers to follow and give me a taste of what it’s like to not only practice effective medicine but also how to build strong relationships with patients and families. They made it look easy. The volunteer physicians clearly showed their continued love for practicing and giving back to the community. The full time providers were so generous with their wisdom regarding all aspects of medicine; there was simply not enough paper to write everything down!

What made Doctors Care experience different from my other rotations and experiences? Everything was better! I learned something from everyone and I really enjoyed the patients. Every high five counted. I am forever grateful to spend time here; their mission and values resonated in ways that make me really excited moving forward. I hope to find warm environments like this in the future. Thank you team Doctors Care!
