What You Need

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I got a letter, a renewal packet in the mail from Health First Colorado. What is this?

Please visit www.healthfirstcolorado.com/renewals for more information.

  • I lost my health insurance, how do I make sure I'm covered?

You now have 60 days to enroll in health insurance under a Life Change Event.

Depending on your situation, you may qualify for Medicaid OR a plan on Connect for Health Colorado.

If you had insurance with your job you may be able to keep the same plan through Cobra, though it will be more expensive.

  • Where do I go to apply if I want to apply on my own?

To apply for Medicaid, click here.

To apply for a health insurance plan, click here.

  • When do I need to make changes to my account?

It is important to keep all your information up to date in PEAK or Connect for Health Colorado whenever there is a change. There may be tax consequences at the end of the year if you do not keep your account up to date. You might even save money on your premium with some life changes.

  • You will need to update your account if any of these life changes happen:

    • Got married/divorced
    • Had a child
    • Changed or lost your job
    • Change or loss in income
    • Moved
    • Death in your household
    • And More
  • What is Public Charge? Should I be worried about it?

In immigration, public charge describes a person who might rely on the government for financial, housing, or food assistance, or for health care.

If the government decides that a person is a “public charge,” their application to enter the US, or to get a green card, may be denied.

Public charge does not apply to US citizens or individuals applying for:

    • Temporary Protected Status
    • U or T Visas
    • Asylum
    • Refugee Status
    • Special Immigrant Juvenile Status
    • Individuals renewing a green card or applying for citizenship.

Understanding

OmniSalud

A new program that provides undocumented Coloradans and DACA recipients with a safe way to compare affordable health insurance plans and enroll on a secure online platform, Colorado Connect.
  • Where is OmniSalud available?

OmniSalud is only available in Colorado, through the Colorado Connect platform.

  • What is SilverEnhanced Savings?

SilverEnhaced Savings is the financial assistance offered to folks on OmniSalud who qualify based on their household size and monthly or annual income.

  • When can I sign up for insurance?

Open enrollment starts November 1st and goes through January 15th each year. Your benefits will start the following year, depending on when you signed up. For example, if you sign up for insurance between November 1st, 2023 and December 15th, 2023 your benefits will start on January 1st, 2024. If you sign up for insurance on or after December 16th, 2023 your benefits will start on February 1st, 2024.

  • What information do I need to provide to sign up for the program?

When you apply, you will need your name, address, and a clear idea about your monthly or annual income. You won't be asked to provide verification of income.

  • Will I become a public charge if I enroll in a plan through OmniSalud?

No. When applying for this program, you will not be asked for your immigration status. Additionally, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) does not consider this type of health insurance coverage and assistance when making public charge determinations.

  • How much does it cost?

Costs are lower, and plan benefits are better. Here are some of the ways Colorado Option plans are making healthcare more affordable and accessible for all Colorado residents:

$0 Doctor visits when you are sick or have an injury

$0 Therapist, counselor, or doctor visits for mental/behavioral health or substance abuse

$0 Doctor visits for maternity care — before and after birth (prenatal and postnatal)
