Extending a helping hand – or several

Doctors Care reception received a call from a mom who wanted to bring her 5 kids into Doctors Care for medical appointments but had no transportation.  It was important for all kids to be seen on the same day so she/they would not need to make multiple trips to the clinic.  The health navigation team was contacted to arrange transportation through NEMT (non-emergency medical transportation) service. However, after spending considerable time on the phone with them, the team was told NEMT would only transfer individuals enrolled in Medicaid with scheduled doctors’ appointments, and one of the children was not on Medicaid. The team contacted mom about enrolling the uninsured child in Medicaid, and helped her complete the online enrollment. Next, the navigation team worked with reception to schedule all five kids in one morning.   Transportation for mom and the entire family was then arranged with NEMT by our navigation team for appointments at Doctors Care, and all were seen in the clinic last week.  Mom was extremely grateful for the help and support she received from so many sources at Doctors Care.
