Bebe Kleinman, MNM, CEO
Bebe has over 30 years working experience in the nonprofit sector focusing on serving the needs of low income children and families, 18 as CEO of Doctors Care. Bebe’s passion is to support and create a more just and fair society for all members of our community. She continues to innovate solutions to strengthen the nonprofit sector and ensure that everyone has the health care and health coverage they need to live happy and productive lives. Selected as a Colorado Trust Fellow in 1996, she returned to school to receive a Master’s in Nonprofit Management from Regis University. She enjoys her work on many community boards and committees as well as previous work for The Women’s Foundation of Colorado as Program Director, Director of Development for The Gathering Place, Executive Director for Douglas County Senior Services, and Director of Social Services for Sheridan County Memorial Hospital in Wyoming.
Alisa Spilman, COO
Alisa has spent ten years working with database management, as well as volunteer and community relations in local nonprofits. She is responsible for supervising the Clinic, Health Access, Quality Improvement, and Information Technology departments. Additionally, she has a Bachelors in Science in Nursing from Regis University, and has volunteered with The Village Preschool, Littleton Immigration Initiative (LI3) and Bridgeway House.
Sue Covington, PA-C, Clinic Director/Health Care Provider
Sue received her medical education at the University of Colorado Health Science Center and has practiced as a Pediatric Physician Assistant for 20 years. After practicing Primary Care for 2 years in Los Angeles California, she moved back to Colorado to work with the first Pediatric Hospitalist group in Colorado, which provided inpatient, neonatal and intensive care at five Denver Metro Hospitals. For the past 12 years she has returned to practicing Primary Care supporting the Medical Home model. She has been on the Clinical Faculty for The Children’s Hospital and works with Physician Assistant and Family Practice Residency programs to teach students and interns. She is proficient in medical Spanish. She now directs and oversees the clinic operations at Doctors Care as well as continuing to provide medical care to clinic patients.
Barb Hanson, Development and Marketing Director
After spending 25 years in corporate advertising and marketing management, followed by capital campaign experience at the Aspen Music Festival and School, Barb came to Doctors Care four years ago as a communications consultant. She is now responsible for all fundraising and marketing initiatives including foundation grant and donor management, research of new funding opportunities, statistic management and various other fundraising activities, as well as overseeing all marketing and communication activities at Doctors Care.
Ann Harden, Human Resources and Benefits Director
Ann has more than 28 years of professional human resources management experience. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Colorado and a Master’s of Public Administration from the University of Denver. She previously served as Director of Human Resources for Arapahoe County. Ann manages and promotes organizational standards in staff training and development, employee safety, and personnel policies and procedures.
Shera Lee Matthews, Accountable Care Director for Revenue and Policy
Shera has more than 15 years experience as a practice administrator in the healthcare industry and she possesses 10 additional years outside of healthcare in operations management. Shera directs the administrative operations for the medical clinic at Doctors Care and works closely with the providers and staff to maximize processes that ultimately end in a positive patient experience. Shera is considered a Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid Program) and managed care expert and is involved in the community as a liaison for Doctors Care and other safety-net clinics. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Education with a Minor in Psychology and additional post graduate education in Business Administration from the University of Northern Colorado.
Jana Baker, Volunteer Manager
For over 25 years, Jana has served numerous nonprofit organizations as a staff member or volunteer. She most recently worked as the Volunteer Specialist for The Volunteers of America Mission in Denver where she developed a dynamic volunteer program utilizing retired individuals, homeless clients, students and corporate groups. Jana is passionate about working with the vulnerable in our community and thoroughly enjoys engaging other volunteers to use their skills, experience and compassion to do the same.
Kathy R. Butler, LPC, Behavioral Health Provider
Kathy comes to Doctors Care with several years of experience as a therapist. She earned her Bachelors degree with a focus in psychology from the University of South Florida and began working in community based programs as a case manager. In order to enhance her skills she graduated with her Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University in Tampa as a means of continuing her work within community based programs. Prior to working at Doctors Care, she had experience working with pre and postpartum women and transitioned to community mental health as a therapist. She is looking forward to contributing her skills to assist in addressing behavioral health issues that clients may face.
John Cacace, Connection to Coverage Manager
John has more than 35 years of experience in information technology and training solutions. He was Vice President of a 240 person business unit at American Management Systems (AMS) that specialized in the development and implementation of multi-dimensional learning solution for firms implementing corporate-wide application systems. Prior to joining Doctors Care he worked at Efficient Forms in Littleton, CO, where he helped bring to market a ‘real language interview software’ product called Efficient Hire, eliminating the need for new hire paperwork. He received his Bachelor’s in Applied Math-Computer Science from Stony Brook University in 1973.
Paola Diaque, Health Access Program Coordinator
Paola is the newest member of the staff at Doctors Care. Born in Mexico, she obtained a degree in Fine Arts and History of the Arts from the University of San Miguel de Allende. She moved to Seattle with her husband and family, where she was an art teacher as part of a children’s therapy program. She then moved to Summit County where she worked at the Summit Community Care Clinic, her first experience in the medical field. The family settled in Denver seven years ago. Paola chose Doctors Care partly due to her positive experience at Summit CCC, her desire to continue to work at a non profit, and the organization’s interaction with the community. Her interests include spending time with the family, skiing, pursuing the interaction between art and psychology, and taking classes in art therapy.
Liz Estrada, Clinic Receptionist
Liz is a Colorado native who has been with Doctors Care for four years. She obtained an Associate of Arts degree in Medical Billing from Red Rocks Community College (formerly Warren Tech). Prior to Doctors Care, she worked as a support specialist at Denver Health. Liz likes the opportunity to work for a nonprofit, and be part of an organization that helps the underserved in the community. As a receptionist, she enjoys the many ways she is able to assist patients and clients. Liz has two children and two grandchildren, with another coming soon. She loves spending time with them, as well as cooking – especially Mexican dishes. During her free time, she also loves to shop and is a great bargain hunter.
Andrea Gallegos, Premium Sponsorship Program Administrator
Andrea was born and raised in Quito, Ecuador. With a love and passion for humanity, she feels very lucky to have had opportunity to travel the world. Andrea graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio Texas in Psychology and Sociology in 2018. She worked with many diverse populations in various projects all related to health, including Indigenous communities, public and private schools both in Ecuador and the U.S. She is very passionate about health and strives for social justice, which is why Andrea came to Doctors Care, to put her passion of helping others into action. She also has numerous other interests including photography, writing, biking, hiking, nature, cooking, art, culture and many others but, there is nothing that fulfills Andrea as much as helping people by making a real impact in someone else’s life – to help provide equal opportunities and access to health care.
Kriste Hardt, PA-C, Quality Improvement Senior Manager/Health Care Provider
After completing her medical training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Kriste practiced medicine for four years at a pediatrics practice in northeast Denver where she provided primary care in school-based and traditional clinic settings and neonatal care at three Denver area hospitals. She first joined the team at Doctors Care in 2011 because she wanted to provide primary care in her local community. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, she performs administrative work as the Quality Improvement Senior Manager, coordinating several grant-funded programs. A native of Littleton, Kriste enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing during her free time.
Taylor Hart, Health Information Technology Specialist
Born and raised in Nashville, TN, Taylor graduated from Belmont University in 2009 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship. He has been in the information technology field for 4 years and also has a background in inside sales. Upon moving to Denver in 2015, Taylor has since joined the Doctors Care IT team providing user support for its staff and volunteers. As a former 400 meter state champion and college scholarship track runner, Taylor enjoys athletics and outdoor activities, most of which include skiing and hiking and cheering on the Vanderbilt Commodores back home. He is an avid enthusiast of all things technology and is excited to bring his expertise to Colorado and the Doctors Care family.
Ana Herrera, Medical Assistant
Ana was born and raised in Denver. She joined Doctors Care three years ago to fulfill her goal to work and learn within the medical field, and her love of patient care. She appreciates the opportunities Doctors Care has afforded, as it has enabled her to work towards achieving her goals. She loves the organization’s commitment to the community, and as a Medical Assistant, the time she can spend with patients. Ana received her training at Pima Medical Institute where she obtained a medical assistant certification. Her primary hobby is spending time with her two children, ages three years and nine months.
Heather Hoff, IT Senior Manager
Heather has a Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Informatics from Montana Tech of the University of Montana. Heather has fifteen years of experience in healthcare industry. The past four years she has spent working in Health IT in the Denver area. Prior to working at Doctors Care, she worked at Montana Chemical Dependency Center, and Western Montana Mental Health as a Mental Health and Chemical Dependency Technician. Heather uses her skills acquired through her education and experience in the healthcare industry to support Doctors Care with providing the highest level of healthcare for its patients.
Alexandra Kellogg, Health Access Program Senior Manager
Alexandra completed her Master of Public Health from the Colorado School of Public Health in the summer of 2016. Her first experience working in public health came in 2008 volunteering in Tanzania providing HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness classes. She has over five years of program management experience and has been trained as a patient navigator and a tobacco cessation coach. Alexandra is committed to working with persons facing excess burdens to health based on their social and economic conditions. She is a member of the Colorado Health Literacy Coalition, where they work to ensure patients have the information and knowledge to make informed health decisions. She brings to Doctors Care a passion for evidence based, efficacious, and efficient program design and implementation.
Char Patton, Health Navigation Program Manager
Char earned her Associate Degree in Applied Sciences from North Hennepin Community College. She has worked as a paralegal in family law and in the insurance industry. She has over ten years of administrative, customer service, and management experience. Char recently earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care Administration from the University of Phoenix. Char has continued her training by completing health navigation courses through the Patient Navigation Training Collaborative, becoming a Certified Mental Health First Aid Trainer, and a Certified Health Guide through Connect for Health Colorado. Prior to joining the Doctors Care team in her current role as Patient Care Manager, Char offered her expertise to the organization as a volunteer for more than seven months.
Kristin Reck, PA-C, Health Care Provider
Kristin received her medical education at the University of Colorado Health Science Center and has practiced as a Physician Assistant for eight years. Her background includes five years of Family Medicine at a community health center providing care to the migrant worker population. Through this experience she was able to become proficient in medical Spanish. For the past two years she has worked in an orthopedic practice treating chronic and acute spine injuries. She is thrilled to return to providing primary care and education to the underserved population. Throughout her career Kristin has been a preceptor for medical, pre-med and physician assistant students.
Armando Reyes, MS, FNP-BC, Health Care Provider
Armando Reyes was born and raised in Alamosa, Colorado. He earned a master’s of science in nursing/family nurse practitioner from Regis University. Armando also holds a bachelor of arts in biology from Adams State University and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Colorado, College of Nursing with his bachelor of science in nursing.
Prior to joining Doctors Care, Armando worked as a maternal child public health nurse at Jefferson County Public Health and as a medical/surgical nurse at Denver Health. To fuel his passion for social justice and public health, as a youth, Armando volunteered with various organizations to promote HIV/AIDS prevention. He is a regular volunteer for the 9News Health Fair and takes every opportunity to teach undergraduate students the scientific rigors and art of nursing.
Maria Rodriguez, Enrollment & Outreach Specialist
Maria moved to Colorado at the age of 17 from Bogota, Colombia. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Colorado State University in International Relations and Languages, Literature & Cultures. After graduating, Maria worked to grow her family business, a Colombian coffee shop in the Denver Tech Center. Once the shop took off, Maria joined the Doctors Care team and has loved her ability to serve as a healthcare advocate, educator, and outreach coordinator for patients from all walks of life. She loves working at Doctors Care where she is able to be directly involved in resolving the healthcare needs of her clients all while having the opportunity to work alongside an amazing and diverse team.
Elizabeth Shultz, Development and Communication Specialist
Elizabeth has worked for the nonprofit sector since 2007 and loves new challenges and experiences that can broaden her knowledge professionally and personally. Originally from Oklahoma, she became a Coloradan in 2015 and has enjoyed the outdoor activities and scenic views. Elizabeth is a passionate individual that wants to make a difference in the lives of others. She has worked for a variety of causes including domestic violence organizations, a local symphony and other art organizations, and affordable housing. Elizabeth holds a Bachelor’s in Nonprofit Management for the Arts from the University of Oklahoma and a Master’s in Nonprofit Management from Regis University. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, playing with her two Jack Russel Terriers, and spending time with friends and family.
Nhora Suarez, Lead Medical Assistant
Nhora was born in Columbia, South America. She and her family moved to Denver when her husband, a mining engineer, was relocated to the Denver metro area. Nhora has two daughters, ages 16 and 7. Nhora entered Red Rocks Community College where she took ESL classes to learn English. Upon becoming proficient in English, she continued her education at Red Rocks and obtained her certification as a Medical Assistant from the AAMA. Her desire to be an MA was a result of an experience she had with an illness in the family.
Nhora’s externship at Doctors Care led to her four year employment with the organization. She believes in the organization’s commitment to the community and helping people, especially the underserved and the patients she has become close to. Her hobbies include biking and tennis.
Doreen Swatloski, Dental Hygienist
Doreen brings over 25 years of clinical dental hygiene experience to Doctors Care. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Hygiene from Northern Arizona University and an Associate of Arts Degree from Mesa Community College. Doreen entered dentistry as a dental assistant while in college in Flagstaff, Arizona. She spent seven years as a part time clinical dental hygiene faculty member at Northern Arizona University while working in Sedona, AZ. She has served in many volunteer and professional state and local positions associated with dental hygiene. She serves as the dental hygiene provider at Doctors Care and provides preventative dental care to our clinic patients.
Lesly Uc, Clinic Receptionist
Born in Los Angeles, Lesly’s family moved to Denver 17 years ago to be closer to her grandmother and for a better environment. She obtained a degree at Colorado State University in Criminology and Photography. Her hobbies include photography, drawing and the outdoors. Prior to coming to Doctors Care, she did school photography and worked in medical records for a private practice. Two years ago she came to work at Doctors Care because she liked the philosophy of the organization, and the manner in which the clients are treated by staff and volunteers.
Katie VanHoosen, Clinical Teams Nurse Manager
Katie started this position in November after four years of volunteering with the Health Access Team. She has been a nurse since 2009 and has previously worked in emergency departments around the Denver area, with the State of Colorado Refugee Program and the Jefferson County Public Health Department. Katie is excited to be working with an organization that addresses many components of life that effect health while providing thoughtful care to families. What she enjoys most about nursing is meeting lots of different people from a variety of backgrounds. Katie is a lifelong resident of Colorado and enjoys spending time with her family, including her nieces. She enjoys traveling, learning new things and crafting.
