Bebe Kleinman, MNM, CEO
Bebe has over 35 years working experience in the nonprofit sector focusing on serving the needs of low-income children and families. She has been the CEO of Doctors Care for 21 years and is passionate about supporting and creating a more just and fair society for all members of the community. Bebe continues to innovate solutions to strengthen the nonprofit sector and ensure that everyone has the health care and health coverage they need to live happy and productive lives. Selected as a Colorado Trust Fellow in 1996, she returned to school to receive a Master’s in Nonprofit Management from Regis University. She enjoys her work on many community boards and committees as well as previous work for The Women’s Foundation of Colorado as Program Director, Director of Development for The Gathering Place, Executive Director for Douglas County Senior Services, and Director of Social Services for Sheridan County Memorial Hospital in Wyoming.
Alisa Spilman, COO
Alisa has worked in the nonprofit sector since 2003 in community relations, information technology, and operations. She is responsible for supervising the Clinic, Health Access, Quality Improvement, and Information Technology departments at Doctors Care. Additionally, she has a Bachelor’s in Science in Nursing from Regis University. Alisa is a native to Colorado, growing up in Littleton, and loves serving the community she lives in.
Sue Covington, PA-C, Clinic Director/Health Care Provider
Sue received her medical education at the University of Colorado Health Science Center and has practiced as a Physician Assistant for over 30 years. After practicing Primary Care for 3 years in Los Angeles, California, she moved back to Colorado to work with the first Pediatric Hospitalist group in Colorado providing inpatient, neonatal, and intensive care at five Denver Metro Hospitals. After working with the Pediatric Hospitalist group, Sue returned to Primary Care in private practice in Littleton and eventually joined Doctors Care in 2008. She is on the Clinical Faculty for The Children’s Hospital and Rocky Vista University and works with Physician Assistant and Family Practice Residency programs to teach students and interns. She is proficient in medical Spanish. She now directs and oversees the clinic operations at Doctors Care as well as continuing to provide medical care to clinic patients.
Barb Hanson, Development and Marketing Director
Barb has been with Doctors Care for 9 years and is responsible for all fundraising initiatives including foundation, grants and donor management, research of new funding opportunities, statistic management and various other fundraising activities, as well as overseeing all marketing and communication initiatives at Doctors Care. After an earlier career in advertising, Barb is thrilled to be working with such a dynamic group of people, all committed to helping people in need achieve healthier lives.
Ann Harden, Human Resources and Benefits Director
Ann has more than 30 years of professional human resources management experience. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Colorado and a Master’s of Public Administration from the University of Denver. Ann previously served as Director of Human Resources for Arapahoe County. In her position at Doctors Care, she is responsible for managing and promoting organizational standards in payroll tasks, insured benefit administration, human resources policies and procedures, performance evaluation, employee recognition, employee compensation, and employee relations.
Shera Lee Matthews, Accountable Care Director for Revenue and Policy
Shera has more than 15 years’ experience as an executive in the healthcare industry and possesses 10 additional years outside of healthcare in operations management. She oversees revenue operations for the medical clinic and manages the Care Management program and clinic Primary Care Integration initiatives, such as dental care. Shera works closely with the providers, staff, and patients to meet quality health care goals while maximizing revenue and data collection. Considered a Medicaid and managed care policy expert, she represents Doctors Care and other safety-net clinic interests with her involvement in the healthcare community. Shera serves as a board member on several committees such as Colorado Medicaid’s Program Improvement Advisory Committee (PIAC) and the Governing Council for Colorado Access. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education with a Minor in Psychology and possess additional postgraduate education in Business Administration.
Gisselle Andana, Medical Assistant
Gisselle obtained her Medical Assistant degree from Fortis College in Georgia in 2018. Since moving to Colorado two years ago, Gisselle enjoys spending time in the mountains and outdoors with her dog, Benji. Gisselle’s personal goals in life are to help people to the best of her abilities, and to continue learning new skills.
Jana Baker, Volunteer Manager
For over 25 years, Jana has served numerous nonprofit organizations as a staff member or volunteer. She most recently worked as the Volunteer Specialist for The Volunteers of America Mission in Denver where she developed a dynamic volunteer program utilizing retired individuals, homeless clients, students and corporate groups. Jana is passionate about working with the vulnerable in our community and thoroughly enjoys engaging other volunteers to use their skills, experience, and compassion to do the same.
Kathy R. Butler, LPC, Behavioral Health Provider
Kathy comes to Doctors Care with several years of experience as a therapist from Florida. Her experience working within community-based programs over the years inspired Kathy to obtain her Master’s in Mental Health Counseling. Being fluent in Spanish, she moved to Colorado as a bilingual therapist. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), mental health prevalence is on the rise and Kathy is excited to help break down barriers for people by ensuring they have access mental health services. Her work with Doctors Care allows Kathy to utilize her skills and assist in addressing behavioral health issues that clients may face in the community – children and adults alike.
John Cacace, Connection to Coverage Manager
John has more than 35 years of experience in information technology and training solutions. He was Vice President of a 240-person business unit at American Management Systems (AMS) that specializes in the development and implementation of a multi-dimensional learning solution for firms implementing corporate-wide application systems. Prior to joining Doctors Care, John worked at Efficient Forms in Littleton, CO, where he helped bring to market a ‘real language interview software’ product called Efficient Hire, eliminating the need for new hire paperwork. He received his Bachelor’s in Applied Math-Computer Science from Stony Brook University in 1973.
Brian Currin, Information Technology Senior Manager
Brian grew up in Idaho and moved to Denver in 2009. He has worked for non-profit healthcare organizations for over 10 years, and has held various IT Support, Clinical Informatics, and IT Management positions at healthcare providers throughout the Denver Metro Area. Having worked from level one trauma-unit hospitals to small providers, Brian fell in love with the nonprofit healthcare world because, he says, it feels like being part of a family. He earned a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Leadership from University of Denver in 2013. As part of Brian’s responsibilities at Doctors Care, he oversees all things IT. He has a passion for streamlining processes and reducing frustrations with technology to maximize employee efficiencies, resulting in improved patient care. Outside of work, Brian enjoys skiing and traveling the world with his family.
Paola Diaque, Health Access Program Coordinator
Born in Mexico, Paola obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts from the University of San Miguel De Allende. She moved to Seattle with her husband and family where she was a Montessori teacher as part of a children’s art therapy program. She then moved to Denver in 2012 and worked at the Summit Community Care Clinic, her first experience in the medical field. Paola chose Doctors Care partly due to her positive experience at Summit CCC, her desire to continue to work at a nonprofit, and the organization’s interaction with the community. Her interests include skiing with the family, pursuing the interaction between art and psychology, and taking classes in architecture construction and estimation.
Liz Estrada, Clinic Receptionist
Liz is a Colorado native who has been with Doctors Care for four years. She obtained an Associate of Arts degree in Medical Billing from Red Rocks Community College (formerly Warren Tech). Prior to Doctors Care, she worked as a support specialist at Denver Health. Liz likes the opportunity to work for a nonprofit, and be part of an organization that helps the underserved in the community. As a receptionist, she enjoys the many ways she is able to assist patients and clients. Liz has two children and four grandchildren. She loves spending time with them, as well as cooking – especially Mexican dishes. During her free time, she also loves to shop and is a great bargain hunter.
Kriste Hardt, PA-C, Quality Improvement Senior Manager/Health Care Provider
After completing her medical training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Kriste practiced medicine for four years at a pediatrics practice in northeast Denver where she provided primary care in school-based and traditional clinic settings and neonatal care at three Denver area hospitals. She first joined the team at Doctors Care in 2011 because she wanted to provide primary care in her local community. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, she performs administrative work as the Quality Improvement Senior Manager, coordinating several grant-funded programs. A native of Littleton, Kriste enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing during her free time.
Taylor Hart, Health Information Technology Specialist
Born and raised in Nashville, TN, Taylor graduated from Belmont University in 2009 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship. After beginning his professional career in inside sales, he quickly transitioned into the information technology field. Upon moving to Denver in 2015, Taylor has since joined the Doctors Care Health IT team providing user support for its staff and volunteers. As a former 400-meter state champion and college scholarship track runner, Taylor enjoys athletics and outdoor activities, most of which include skiing and hiking and cheering on the Vanderbilt Commodores back home. He is an avid enthusiast of all things technology and is excited to bring his expertise to Colorado and the Doctors Care family.
Elizabeth Hockaday, Development and Communication Specialist
Elizabeth has worked in the nonprofit sector since 2007. She loves new challenges and experiences that broaden her knowledge professionally and personally. Elizabeth is a passionate individual that wants to make a difference in the lives of others. She has worked for a variety of causes including domestic violence organizations, a local symphony and other art organizations, and affordable housing. Elizabeth holds a Bachelor’s in Nonprofit Management for the Arts from the University of Oklahoma and a Master’s in Nonprofit Management from Regis University. Originally from Oklahoma, she became a Coloradan in 2015 and has enjoyed the outdoor activities and scenic views. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, playing with her two Jack Russel Terriers, and spending time with friends and family.
Alexandra Kellogg, Health Access Program Senior Manager
Alexandra has over eight years of program management experience. She completed her Masters of Public Health from the Colorado School of Public Health in the summer of 2016, with a focus on Community Health. Her first experience working in public health came in 2008 while volunteering in Tanzania providing HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness classes. Other health care related experiences includes work as a CNA, a tobacco cessation coach, and a research assistant in several health promotion projects. She is a member of the Colorado Health Literacy Coalition where they work to promote best practices to help clients have the support and tools they need to make informed health decisions. Alexandra is committed to working to promote health equity by targeting unnecessary barriers that exist in our current systems and institutions. Outside of Doctors Care, she loves spending as much time as possible in the mountains: hiking, camping, snowboarding, and exploring.
Ivonne Marquez, Medical Assistant
Ivonne is a medical assistant at Doctors Care, who is also studying at CU Denver for a degree in Human Development and Family Relations with a minor in Biology. After completing her education, Ivonne aspires to work her way up the nursing ladder, and ultimately become a nurse anesthetist. As a Colorado native, she enjoys taking trips to the mountains for the scenic views. She is a huge fan of dogs and owns a spoiled Pomeranian named Simba. Ivonne is very family oriented, and although she doesn’t have any kids herself, she’s very involved in the lives of her nieces and nephews, showing them plenty of love.
Char Patton, Health Navigation Program Manager
Char earned her Associate Degree in Applied Sciences from North Hennepin Community College. She has worked as a paralegal in family law and in the insurance industry and has over ten years of administrative, customer service, and management experience. Char recently earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care Administration from the University of Phoenix. Char has continued her training by completing health navigation courses through the Patient Navigation Training Collaborative, becoming a Certified Mental Health First Aid Trainer, and a Certified Health Guide through Connect for Health Colorado. She also recently became a certified diabetes educator paraprofessional. Prior to joining the Doctors Care team in her current role as Patient Care Manager, Char offered her expertise to the organization as a volunteer for more than seven months.
Kristin Reck, PA-C, Health Care Provider
Kristin received her medical education at the University of Colorado Health Science Center and has practiced as a Physician Assistant for 17 years. Her background includes five years of Family Medicine at a community health center providing care to the migrant worker population. Through this experience, she was able to become proficient in medical Spanish. For two years, she has worked in an orthopedic practice treating chronic and acute spine injuries. Kristin treasures the past 10 years she has spent providing primary care and education to the population at Doctors Care and hopes to continue to serve the community there for many more.
Armando Reyes, MS, FNP-BC, Health Care Provider
Armando Reyes was born and raised in Alamosa, Colorado. He earned a Master’s of Science in Nursing/Family Nurse Practitioner from Regis University. Armando also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Adams State University and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Colorado, College of Nursing with his Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Prior to joining Doctors Care, Armando worked as a maternal child public health nurse at Jefferson County Public Health and as a medical/surgical nurse at Denver Health. To fuel his passion for social justice and public health, as a youth, Armando volunteered with various organizations to promote HIV/AIDS prevention. He is a regular volunteer for the 9News Health Fair and takes every opportunity to teach undergraduate students the scientific rigors and art of nursing.
Maria Rodriguez, Enrollment & Outreach Specialist
Maria moved to Colorado at the age of 17 from Bogota, Colombia. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Colorado State University in International Relations and Languages, Literature and Cultures. After graduating, Maria worked to grow her family business, a Colombian coffee shop in the Denver Tech Center. Once the shop took off, Maria joined the Doctors Care team and has loved her ability to serve as a healthcare advocate, educator, and outreach coordinator for patients from all walks of life. She loves working at Doctors Care where she can be directly involved in resolving the healthcare needs of her clients, all while having the opportunity to work alongside an amazing and diverse team.
Amy Smith, Billing Coordinator
Amy is a British native who came to live in Colorado 20 years ago. She finished high school before moving here and went to Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology where she earned her Associates of Applied Sciences degree in Veterinary Technology. She worked as a vet tech for 15 years before joining Doctors Care. She decided to switch to human medicine and earned certificates in Medical Coding and Billing, as well as Advanced Medical Terminology. She is a Certified Professional Coder with the AAPC. Amy enjoys show jumping and spending time with her husband and their two children. Together, they love to go camping and riding in their can-am machine up in the mountains.
Nhora Suarez, Clinical Teams Manager
Nhora was born in Colombia, South America, and moved to Denver when her husband’s work relocated the family. Nhora attended Red Rocks Community College and took ESL classes to learn English. She continued her education at Red Rocks and obtained her Medical Assistant certification from the AAMA. Her desire to get in the healthcare field was due to an experience with a family illness. Nhora believes in Doctors Care’s commitment to the community and in helping people, especially the many patients she sees and cares for every day.
Jenifer Tellez, Enrollment Specialist
Jenifer comes to Doctors Care from the Tri-County Health Department, where she worked with children with disabilities. She is inspired by the medical field, and eventually plans to become a pediatric nurse. Jenifer has been working towards a Medical Assistant degree from Metro State University with the goal to finish school once her youngest child is a little older. Before making her way into the health field, Jenifer went to beauty school and is a licensed barber and cosmetologist. When she is not working, Jenifer loves to spend time with her children. They enjoy camping, hiking, and hang out at lakes across Colorado.
Lesly Uc, Clinic Receptionist
Lesly has been working at Doctors Care for more than two years. Born in Los Angeles, California, her family moved to Denver 17 years ago to be closer to her grandmother. Lesly obtained a Bachelor’s degree at Colorado State University in Fine Arts and Criminal Justice. Prior to coming to Doctors Care, she did school photography and worked in medical records for a private practice. Lesly values working together as a team and strives to help and deliver the best for patients and clients. Treating everyone with respect and to the best of her ability is very important to her. Lesly enjoys spending time with her family, her church, and her dogs.
Elena Varillas, Medical Assistant
Elena grew up in the Jaurez-El Paso area and moved to Colorado in 2001. She attended school at the Denver College of Nursing, and is a Certified Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist Technician. Her passion for working in the medical field came from her father who worked in pharmaceuticals in Mexico, and an overall desire to help people. Elena has two children, who are married and live in Denver. She is looking forward to the day she has grandchildren and can spoil them. When Elena is not working, she spends time with her family, cat, and dog. They enjoy their time together, whether it is relaxing at home playing table games or traveling and hiking.
